The NCET 2026 result has arrived. Now what has to be done after the result? Many children have this doubt in their minds. We are discuss all those things in this article.
Along with that, according to your score, what kind of university you should target and apply to, We’re going to discuss about that very clearly.
NCET 2026 Result: Understanding Your Score
The result that has come is your final result. Now there will not be any changes in it. And the scores that have been given in the result are not percentiles. When you add the numbers of all seven subjects together, you will get the total score. That is your score.
Now, you have to become very active because now NTA’s work is finished.
What to do next?
You’ve to collect all your documents. Keep your admit card, your score card, all category certificates, 10th, 12th, and all documents safely in one place.
And one important thing is that do not mix CUET and NCET at all. Many children make this mistake. They put CUET details in NCET. They are putting NCET details in CUET. Because forms for both will be filled separately.
What Has to Be Done Now?
NTA has not given your ranking. It has only given your score. Your ranking will come in whichever institution you apply to. Now which institution should you apply to?
For that, you have to look at three things:
- Your Score – What is your score? Looking at that, it will have to be decided in which institute you can apply.
- Preferred State – Where can you go? You will be a domicile of some state. When you are a resident of that state, you get benefits there. You will get that quota. So these things will also be considered.
- Subject of Specialization – For example, If you want to study at the Central University of Rajasthan. But I am from Biology. Now Biology is not even available there. So I will also have to see that.
Will a child with 156 marks apply to an IIT? Obviously not. This score itself is not there. This is not even the score for a State University unless you have some special category. Let us say you are PWD, then there are chances that even at 156 your admission may happen.
But normally, for General, OBC, SC, and ST, admission to IIT or NIT will not happen with 156.
So according to your score, you will have to choose the institute.

Score-Based University Targeting
Now let us come to your score, which is the question of many children.
“If score is 250. Where should I apply?”
350+ Scores — IITs, NITs, RIEs, and Central Universities
Out of 640, if you have secured even up to 350, then you can apply to IITs, NITs, RIEs, and Central Universities. If not in the first list, then in the second, if not in the second, then in the third list, your name may come.
If I tell you accurately, then anyone whose score is up to 400, for sure your name will come somewhere in these institutes.
But if we consider 350, and suppose some child leaves admission, then the seat will be offered. By offering seats like this, these top institutes will eventually reach children with scores up to 350.
Now you have to decide how many IITs, how many NITs, RIEs, and Central Universities you want to apply to.
Tier-1 Central Universities
And which Central Universities am I talking about? I am talking about Tier-1 Central Universities.
What do I mean by Tier-1? Tier-1 means the Central Universities that come in Central India.
For example, many children are asking about CUSB — Central University of South Bihar. So that will come under Tier-1.
- Rajasthan will come under Tier-1
- CU of MP will come under Tier-1
- Gujarat will come under Tier-1
All these states of Central India are being considered Tier-1 by me.
Why? Because the cutoff here is very high and many students apply here.
So if your marks are up to 350, you can take the risk that you may apply to IITs, NITs, RIEs, or Central Universities.
Tier-2 Universities and State Universities
Scores Between 350 and 250
For scores between 350 and 250, your name can come in Tier-2 Central Universities.
For example, universities in the North-East or toward the South.
The South itself is Tier-1, but for us North Indians, it is considered Tier-2. Why? Because there is a language barrier for us. Kerala itself is outstanding, an ideal state. But we North Indians consider it Tier-2 because we do not prefer going there due to the language barrier.
Similarly, they also feel a language barrier in coming here. So for them, we become the second preference. For them, we come under the Tier-2 category.
Then you can apply to Tier-1 State Universities in North India that are offering the programme. The list has been given to you — all state-wise colleges have been listed.
Scores Below 250
For those whose marks are below 250, go toward Tier-2 State Universities. That means State Universities in the North-East (not Central Universities) or private institutes in your own state.
Final Suggestions
So this is a range that I have suggested from my side. You are free to apply to whichever institute you want.
First decide your preferences on the basis of these factors:
- What is your score?
- What is your preferred state?
- What is your subject of specialization?
